Final meeting for the American Indian Affairs Interim Study Committee

The American Indian Affairs Study Committee met for the last time during our interim here at the State Capitol. When we formed the interim committee, we affirmed our commitment to working alongside the sovereign Southern Ute Indian Tribe, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and community partners to develop stronger government-to-government relationships. One of the bills we supported today will extend the interim committee for another 5 years so we can continue to keep an open line of communication between American Indian Tribal Lands and the legislature.

I also had the privilege to meet with Chairman Baker of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe following our committee hearing. We discussed the priorities of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and how the state of Colorado can help serve American Indian Tribal Lands.
