Rep. Monica Duran
Gun Violence Prevention
This past Thursday a press conference was held to unveil a package of gun violence prevention bills. I am proud to be a co-prime sponsor on legislation that will increase the age requirement to purchase and possess a firearm from 18 to 21 in order to reduce gun-related violence. Although 18-20 year olds make up only 4% of the nation’s population, they account for 17% of homicide offenders. In the last decade youth suicide has increased by 61%. Increasing the legal firearm purchasing will help prevent tragic deaths and keep our communities safer.
