On Wednesday, September 4, Legislative Council convened to discuss important ballot initiatives and propositions that will be on the ballot this November. We finalized the language for the Blue Book, a ballot information book that will go to voters to provide background and information on the ballot measures for this upcoming election.
During the 2024 Legislative Session, I passed two policies that are coming to the voters for approval. The first, Proposition KK, creates a 6.5% excise tax on firearms and ammunition, from which revenue will go towards mental health services for veterans & at-risk youth, crime victim services, and school safety. The second, Amendment 1: Constitutional Bail Exception for First Degree Murder, which if approved, will allow Judges to deny bail to anyone who has been charged with first degree murder.
